Job Description: As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be a motivated self starter who can work with and lead other engineers to resolve technical problems, establish approaches for solutions, and complete mechanical scope of work. You should be able to manage complex projects delivering them on time and on budget. The mechanical design effort will include packaging design for infrared focal plane assemblies with considerations in thermal and structural performance in vacuum and cryogenic environments. Experience in Design-to-Cost (DTC), Cost-as-an-Independent-Variable (CAIV), and Design-for-Manufacturability (DFMA), and Design-to-Unit-Production-Cost (DTUPC) is desired for commercial and military products. The candidate will assist in generating proposals and will provide innovative mechanical design and manufacturing expertise. The engineer will need to conduct peer reviews and may need to work closely with the manufacturing engineer discipline to ensure that the product can be built within the required schedule and budget. The qualified candidate will have demonstrated skills in project management, earned value, mechanical design, analysis, be proficient in ProE (or similar CAD tool) and will possess good communication and teaming skills. Additionally, you will provide direction and consultation on mechanical issues and be responsible for technical work performed by junior level engineers. You should be able to work effectively in a team setting. As a senior engineer, you will be expected to work with minimal technical direction and at a high level of independence in resolving technical problems and establishing the approach for a solution. Required Skills: Minimum of 8 years of professional engineering experience in mechanical design Minimum of 8 years of experience in product development from concept to production release of mechanical, electrical and optical packaging. Experience with a gate release process for product development. Experience with machine shop(s), manufacturing, and assembly techniques Minimum of 8 years of literacy and experience with Pro Engineer or similar CAD tool Proficiency with Geometric, Dimensional & Tolerance. Possess strong written and oral communication skills. Mechanical design, manufacture and processes Experience with support roles with design and mechanical applications in Integrated Product Teams that include other engineering disciplines such as Electrical, Systems, and Manufacturing Engineering Specific experience in space flight hardware and/or military product applications and environments Minimum 6 years of experience as a Technical Lead on a product line or business area and viewed as an expert within a program or functional area. Minimum 3 years of experience working with customers as the technical point contact for a product or business area and instrumental in attracting and obtaining major new program business. A minimum of 6 years leading other engineers on various engineering projects for the delivery of military or aerospace products US Citizenship, and ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance Desired Skills: Knowledge in the design of products and tooling used in applications requiring high reliability and extended life. Manufacturing/Operations assembly and testing experience. Knowledge of cryogenic and vacuum packaging. Knowledge in the design of infrared products. Low cost infrared FPA packaging design (commercial and military). Knowledge and experience in Earned Value Management Advanced degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science or related professional experience Educational or experience background in either Material Science, Thermodynamics, or Structural Analysis Ability to read detailed engineering drawings, specifications and an understanding of Geometric, Dimensional & Tolerance per ASME Y14.5-2009 Knowledgeable in quality management systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and/or CMMMI Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mechanical preferred.
